Bristol Studio unveils its take on Adidas’s new Crazy BYW sneakers.
Last month, Adidas introduced the world to its over-the-top Crazy BYW (Boost You Wear) sneakers. Inspired by the brand’s “Feet You Wear” tech that originally debuted in the late ’90s, the flashy basketball sneaker sole has kept all its vintage vibes, but has been upgraded with one big modern twist: a big dose of Boost. And now, Adidas is teaming up with the Los Angeles sportswear brand Bristol Studio to give the eye-catching sneaker a luxe-minimalist makeover.
Bristol Studio is known for its high-concept (and sometimes unconventional) take on athletic wear: think atypical proportions and off-kilter details like misaligned shirts, or sweatpants with inside-out pockets. That same “imperfect design” approach finds its way to these sneakers. The limited-edition kicks come in two colorways—muted oatmeal and washed-out black— and feature premium leather and suede uppers that have been given a worn, weathered feel. The sneaker’s famous wavy midsole design is intact, although the outsole has been given the on-trend gum sole treatment.
Nowadays, brands like Adidas know their customers want a basketball shoe that has it all: bold style, modern tech and comfort, and a warm hit of nostalgia. The Adidas Crazy BYW offers all of that, and then some. This much remains true, too: the dream of the ‘90s is still alive in men’s sneakers and it shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.
