All the Wild, Signed-by-Kobe, and Sonic the Hedgehog-Inspired Shoes We’ve Already Seen This NBA Season

The NBA is back, and the fans who closely watch the sneakers on the court will have even more to watch this year. Thanks to a rule change, players are no longer limited to sneakers in their team colors—now it’s kosher for a Laker to wear vino-red or a Celtic to wear, as you’ll see, all the colors at once.

Since the change was announced, everyone responsible for getting NBA players into their kicks has been making adjustments. Sneaker companies like Adidas were working “fast and furious” to take full advantage of the looser guidelines, NBA stylists envisioned “good, bad, and gloriously ugly colorways,” and it even inspired sneaker reselling platform Goat to sponsor NBA player Kyle Kuzma. The effect of the rule change has been on spectacular retina-burning display during these first three nights of NBA action. Players have changed into three different shoes over the course of a game, worn shoes inspired by Rosa Parks and Sonic the Hedgehog and, of course, hit the court in a pair of Off-Whites.
