Fond memories: Ant McPartlin’s hilarious impression of I’m A Celebrity star Eric Bristow has resurfaced, following the dart legend’s death of a heart attack on Thursday at the age of 60
The skit between Ant & Dec followed Eric reading out the instructions for the latest Bushtucker Trial, as he co-habited with stars such as Helen Flanagan, Ashley Roberts, David Haye and, eventual series winner, Charlie Brookes.
Ant and his co-presenter Declan Donnelly revealed that viewers of the show had got in touch complaining that they could not understand Ant’s impression of Eric’s heavy Cockney accent.
So to help them out, Ant provided subtitles for his ‘impression’, which turned out to be a hilarious gibberish with some sprinkled phrases, teamed with the subtitles which were little more than a collection of jumbled up words.
Funny: In the 2012 clip, Ant did a played-up version of Eric’s heavy Cockney accent, with Dec offering subtitles to viewers who struggled to understand him
Not-so useful: Unfortunately the subtitles were little more than gibberish, while Ant’s impression was a mixture of strange noises and sporadic phrases
Paying tribute to Eric following the news of his death, fans shared the clip across social media, along with their own fond memories of Eric’s time in the jungle.
One wrote: ‘I can’t think of Eric Bristow without thinking of ant’s impressions @antanddec while in the jungle RIP.’
Another added: ‘R.I.P Eric Bristow. Will always love Ant McPartlin’s impression of him from I’m A Celebrity.’
Before appearing on I’m A Celebrity, Eric was best-known for his glittering darts career, winning five World Championship titles.
But his dry wit won him a whole new generation of fans in the jungle, completing some of the most gruesome Bushtucker Trials with barely a ripple of fear or doubt.
