Bernard Tomic’s camp mates react to his sudden departure

He’s the first person in four series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ to walk away from the South African jungle.

And the sensational moment didn’t appear to go down well with the 25-year-old tennis star’s camp mates – many of who likened him to a ‘quitter’.

‘He’s literally given the finger to everything,’ actor Peter Rowsthorn said after Bernard announced he was leaving to reinvigorate his athletic career.

‘I told Tomic to stay and do another trial to avoid being called a flake,’ comedian Fiona O’Loughlin said, after completing Monday night’s obstacle course alongside him.

‘I wish he had stayed because I think there are still things he can get from this experience,’ 80s pop star Tiffany announced.

Images of Bernard sitting away from the camp and contemplating his choice to join the show were shared in the opening minutes of Tuesday’s episode.

‘I tried to come out here and find myself. It’s my own fault – I was so isolated throughout my career,’ he told Jackie in an intimate one-on-one conversation.

‘I don’t want to see you unhappy,’ Jackie replied, beginning to cry.

‘Something clicked in me the last couple of days and I thought I needed a break [from tennis] and something to wake me up and this is my wake up call,’ he said.

‘I need to get back to what I do best.’

After Bernard left in one fell swoop, Jackie, Josh, Simone and Fiona were ushered to the ‘Grossery’ to eat some of the strangest delicacies South Africa has to offer.

Jackie went first with an Impala brain, pulling many uninterested faces as she downed her first bite.

Simone went next with a cockroach ‘Tim Tam’ – shaking and tearing up as she swallowed the unappetising snack.

An ostrich anus was the next treat on offer – with Josh looking perplexed at how he was going to eat the entire thing for one star – or meal for the camp.

Fiona took to the blended crocodile and fish guts concoction with prowess, earning herself one star.

The group managed to eat the entire challenge’s worth of tasty treats.

Back at camp, Tiffany gave the group a rendition of her famous cover ‘I think we’re alone now,’ admitting she sold 17 million copies of the record.

They also decided to curate personal raps, a task Peter took to aplomb.

Meanwhile Anthony Mundine wasn’t so good at singing – with many of his one-liners falling short.

The group enjoyed fajitas for dinner after winning the Tucker Trial in spectacular fashion.

But Anthony wasn’t excited to wash the dishes, despite Jackie’s encouragement.

Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown then interviewed Bernard on his reasons for leaving the competition.

‘As soon as I got here I was doubting myself,’ he said.

Explaining that he should ‘never have got onto the plane’ in the first place, he didn’t want anyone in the public eye to think it was a ‘publicity stunt’.
