‘Bernard Tomic did not go into the jungle as a ‘stunt’. Bernard signed up in exactly the same way as the other celebrities, fully aware that the series is on air for six weeks,’ Ten’s chief of content Beverley McGarvey said of the conspiracy theory.

‘He was committed to the series, wanting the public to see another side to him and to raise money for his charity, The Ronald McDonald House’.”

The denial comes as viewers took to Twitter after Tuesday night’s episode, suggesting that Bernard’s departure was a ratings ploy.

While one found the irony in casting the tennis star during the same time in which the Australian Open is aired.

‘How ironic #BernardTomic on #ImACelebrityAU while the #AusOpen final is on at the same time, you can’t even make this stuff up lol’.

Bernard sensationally walked from I’m A Celebrity on Tuesday night, just three days into the show, after struggling through a Tucker Trial and admitting to cast mates that he was depressed.

A promo leading up to Tuesday’s episode saw the athlete opening up to co-star, housewife Jackie Gillies.

‘Half the time during the day I’m just depressed. I’ve never really had time to think about my thoughts,’ he said.

‘I always have people around, my mobile phone, my life is so fast-paced.’

The show’s co-host Dr Chris Brown confirmed that Bernard had left the program, stating on-air: ‘The jungle drums have beaten all the way from the jungle.

‘We can confirm right here and right now, and give you guys the exclusive Bernard Tomic. He has gone.’
