Toff revealed to the paper she was badly bullied at the age of 12, while attending The Maynard School – a private, independent school in Exeter, Devon.

Although more than ten years has passed, Toff admitted the thought of her bullies still upsets her – and that she has blocked the ‘horrible’ time out of her memory.

She said: ‘It was a really horrible time in my life and I can’t really remember it. I think I’ve blocked it out because it was so upsetting.’

‘A group of girls didn’t like me and picked on me on a daily basis. They were ever so bitchy. But I moved on, with the support of my family. Even talking about it now makes me well up with tears.’

The bullying got so bad her parents decided to pull her out of school, and instead move her to nearby boarding house Blundell’s – where she remained for the rest of her youth.

However Toff explained there was a positive side to her struggle, and claimed the mean girls taught her to be upbeat and enthusiastic in everything she does.

She even revealed she now actively avoids confrontation – which she believes helped her popularity in the jungle, as she would remove herself from camp when her co-stars started to clash.

Admitting she would work out or chat to Stanley Johnson when any arguments began, she said: ‘Maybe by nature and because of my past I protect myself. The minute I feel any tension I take myself away. I really prefer to be positive.’
