I’m A Celebrity: Dennis Wise recoils in horror from croc

He avoided a painful encounter with a crocodile on Saturday during his previous Bushtucker Trial.

Yet, Dennis Wise, 50, has come face-to-face with another fearful aquatic reptile during Tuesday night’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! challenge, Temple of Gloom, which left him recoiling in horror as he attempted to win eight stars for camp.

The former footballer – who survived the first vote-off of the series after winning immunity as part of the secret society Fright Club – was left sweating as a small crocodile jumped towards his face while he climbed through underwater vents.

The claustrophobic task saw the sports star dive into a pool of water, before swimming into a narrow vent to attempt to collect eight stars in 10 minutes.

Not alone in the vent, Dennis was joined at first by water dragons and spiders before he faced his reptile nemesis after nabbing two stars towards meals for camp.

While diving in the tank, show hosts Ant and Dec couldn’t help but tease Dennis’ campmate Iain Lee for his previous attempt in water.

Playful: Dennis' height has been a recurring joke on the show since the series began and unable to resist poking fun once more, Dec told him as he made his way through the chambers: 'You're the perfect size for this one'

And while the presenters would be forgiven for one playful tease, they couldn’t help themselves after Dennis had a strong start to his task.

‘There you are. Can you hear us?’ Ant asked. While Dennis confirmed he could, Ant continued with the rules for the day’s challenge.

Ant: ‘Perfect you’ve got 10 minutes for the eight stars, best of luck your time starts when you hear the klaxon.’

Once the alarm went off, Dennis gave the challenge all he got which left Ant reflecting: ‘Already a better start than Iain.’

Supporting him all the way through, Ant and Dec described what he facing in each compartment of the vent.

‘There’s the first one, water dragons and spiders in there so be very careful,’ Ant uttered. ‘Oh yeah you can seen them, be careful with the animals. Loads of time no need to rush.’

However no mount of support was going to prepare Dennis for what lay ahead of him as a small crocodile jumped towards him.

Getting a fright, he hilariously exclaimed: ‘Oh Jesus, what the f*** have you got? Get out of it!’

Viewers will have to wait until Tuesday night’s show to see if Dennis will win all eight stars, when the camp will also say goodbye to another celebrity.

Working in his favour: Crediting his small stature for helping him with the task, Dennis insisted it was 'suited to him' because he is 'small'
