I’m A Celebrity’s Paul Burrell is voted out of the jungle

He’s the former royal butler who has also taken part in the UK version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

And as he was voted out of the Australian franchise on Sunday night, Paul Burrell described the latter as a ‘jungle on speed’.

‘I have done longer in this jungle than I did in the UK version. And this is a marathon!’ the 59-year-old told co-hosts Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris.

Quizzed by Julia on how the Australian and UK versions compare, Paul said: ‘This is the jungle on testosterone. This is the jungle on speed.

‘It’s a much shorter period of time for the UK show. I have done longer in this jungle than I did in the UK version. And this is a marathon!’ he continued.

Paul also shared his utter surprise in becoming fast friends with boxer Danny Green.

‘Never in a million years [did I see us becoming friends]. A world champion boxer, Olympian, and the royal butler. No. You wouldn’t put us together,’ the personality admitted.

However Paul went on to reveal that it was the pair’s values that drew them together.

‘[It’s] our natural family attitudes. Grounded. Ordinary…We like similar things. He’s a family man, he loves his kids, I love my kids. We hit it off.

‘He taught me to swim, only doggy paddle, but he taught me to swim, and he taught me to box. So look out!’ he went on to joke.

The series has also seen Paul reveal his heartbreak over coming out as gay to his ex-wife Maria Cosgrove and their children, Alexander, 27, and Nicholas, 24, in a candid ‘Jungle Radio’ interview, in a previous episode.

Princess Diana’s former confidant confessed that breaking the news to his children ‘broke his heart’.

Paul explained that while he and Maria were separated at the time, telling her about his sexuality was difficult.

‘I love my wife, still to this day. She’s the mother of my children,’ Paul said. ‘When I had to confront her we were already separated. And I told her first, before I told the boys, and she said, “Well, I didn’t expect you to marry someone quite so soon”.’

Paul and Maria separated in 2016 after 32 years of marriage, and later announced he was tying the knot with partner Graham Cooper.

Paul and Graham walked down the aisle in May 2017, just one month after Paul publicly acknowledged for the first time he was gay.

He went on to explain that telling Nicholas and Alexander about his sexuality caused him to break down in tears – but the boys took the news surprisingly well.

‘It broke my heart,’ he said. ‘I didn’t want to upset them. I didn’t want them to feel that I was less than their father.’
