I’m A Celebrity’s Simone Holtznagel on Charlotte Dawson

She had to ID the body of her Australia’s Next Top Model mentor Charlotte Dawson, who committed suicide at age 47 in 2014.

And during her exit interview on Thursday’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Simone Holtznagel recalled the toll her friend’s death had taken.

‘I guess I was really naive. I never thought I would be affected by suicide,’ the 24-year-old told co-hosts Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown.

‘I never thought I’d be affected by suicide’: I’m A Celebrity’s Simone Holtznagel [L], 24, recalled the tragic passing of her friend Charlotte Dawson [R] on Thursday’s program

Simone, who chose to support beyondblue [an organisation dedicated to mental health], spoke on losing a friend to suicide so publicly.

‘I chose beyondblue obviously because they are for mental health, depression, suicide prevention, anxiety and obviously I have gone through losing a friend very publicly with that.

‘[I have always been] super open about talking about that side of things and not being ashamed of that. So I think it is really important to raise money and people have that conversation and talk about it.

‘When I lost Charlotte I was 20. I never, ever thought that I would be like, I guess I was really naive. I never thought I would be affected by suicide. I never thought one of my friends would create suicide,’ Simone went on to say.

Emotional: ‘When I lost Charlotte I was 20. I never, ever thought that I would be like, I guess I was really naive. I never thought I would be affected by suicide. I never thought one of my friends would create suicide,’ Simone said

In an earlier episode of I’m A Celebrity aired last month, the LA-based star broke down while recalling the tragic suicide of Charlotte.

Simone was overcome with emotion as she told her camp mates she had to ID Charlotte’s body, who struggled with depression before taking her own life at age 47 in 2014.

‘She was a model, she was really famous in Australia and New Zealand and then she met this guy called Scott Miller who was at the time, an Olympic swimmer,’ she said.

‘Then she fell pregnant and he was training for the Olympics and she was like pressured from his camp and him to have an abortion.’

She continued: ‘That’s when she first started to get depression. She was a massive target, especially when she turned 40 and she was single, didn’t have kids – people were so mean to her.’

The normally bubbly blonde broke down in tears as she recalled having to ID Charlotte’s body.

‘Me and my best friend had to ID her body and I was like “I love you so much”,’ she sobbed.

Charlotte, who had been battling depression, died in her Sydney flat and was found by a real estate agent just moments before an auction for her apartment was due to take place.
