Mick Molloy blasted for fat-shaming model Simone Holtznagel

Triple M radio host Mick Molloy, 51, has been slammed by fans on social media for calling I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Simone Holtznagel, 24, a ‘plus-sized model’ and likening her to a ‘baby elephant’.

The controversial shock-jock prompted an avalanche of criticism after he made the extraordinary comments on Tuesday’s drive-time show, with many calling for Mick to issue a public apology.

‘Your behaviour is disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself,’ one follower wrote underneath Mick’s latest Instagram snap.

‘You need to apologise to @moannn, disgraceful behaviour on your part,’ concurred another.

Meanwhile, another follower attempted to school Mick on why his comments had inspired such heated responses, writing in part: ‘Plus size models are beautiful!!! Simone is beautiful! All bodies are!’

They continued: ‘But by mislabeling someone with Simones body type as plus size – which she is CLEARLY IS NOT – you are sending a message to young women everywhere who look like her, telling them that they are plus size, which they interpret as ‘I need to loose weight’. It’s so dangerous.’

Meanwhile, Simone’s long-term pal and fellow former Australia’s Next Top Model star Madeline Huett-Auld took a swipe at Mick on Twitter this Wednesday, writing: ‘Hey @mickmolloy, do you know why @moan_holtz is doing @ImACelebrityAU? She’s doing it for @beyondblue, to raise awareness & money for people battling depression & other mental illness.’

‘Think about that next time you feel the need publicly humiliate her,’ she added.

Despite the backlash, however, Mick refused to apologise for fat-shaming the Guess model, brushing off his comments as a harmless ‘joke’ during a radio segment on Thursday.

‘Yes, I joked about her appearance. By the way, she’s a model. I think you’re allowed to talk about a model’s appearance and on a comedy show where you’re known as an idiot and you happen to be as fat as a house yourself. I think you’re entitled to make a joke,’ he insisted.

‘Clearly she’s not a plus-size model’ he added.

Mick wrapped up the segment by proclaiming: ‘I’ll never comment on a model’s looks ever again, apparently.’

On Tuesday’s show, Mick accused Simone of being too large to be a model, telling his co-host Jane Kennedy ‘She claims to be a model of some description. She claims to be a world class international model. I call bulls**t on that.’

‘I mean, maybe a plus-size model,’ he continued.

‘She’s been in the jungle for 10 weeks now and still…’ Mick added, before humming the Baby Elephant Walk.

Co-host Jane Kennedy sounded shocked by Mick’s remarks and defended Simone.

‘Come on, that is incredibly rude of you!’ she said.

Simone, who is currently in the South African jungle, has enjoyed an illustrious career after appearing on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2011.

In an impassioned letter, titled ‘Being a kicka**e woman’, the local government official calls the comedian’s comment a ‘desperate and misogynistic cry for attention.’

It comes after Mick claimed that same day that TV reality stars need to be ‘more interesting’, while insisting that the nation’s best talent are now working in radio.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the comedian said people working on the airwaves have ‘opinions’ and ‘aren’t afraid to be controversial’ in a way that reality stars are.

‘If you look around, all the best people in radio are far more interesting than the people in TV,’ he said.
