Peter Rowsthorn apologises to Jackie Gillies over I’m A Celeb insult

It was a case of adding insult to injury on Tuesday, when I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’s Peter Rowsthorn insulted his co-star Jackie Gillies on the same day she was eliminated from the jungle.

But after calling the Real Housewives Of Melbourne psychic a ‘s**tface’ during a conversation with boxer Danny Green, the Kath & Kim actor has expressed regret and says he wants to apologise to her in person.

Following his own elimination on Wednesday, the 55-year-old comedian told The Daily Telegraph: ‘I said something dumb in the midst of it. The first thing I will do is find Jackie and tell her I didn’t mean that, I was just venting — we are all venting.’

Explaining why he had insulted her, Peter said: ‘At the end of the game, people are tired. (Jackie’s) big personality in a very small space, by the end of it you are running out of gas.’

But after reflecting on what he’d said, the Can We Help? star admitted he was wrong to think Jackie was only on I’m A Celebrity for self-promotion.

He acknowledged that the program needs people with big personalities like Jackie to keep viewers interested throughout the series.

Jackie, 37, previously confessed she was ‘extremely disappointed’ by what Peter had said about her to Danny because he ‘was always so lovely to (her) face’.

Peter – who is best known as ‘Pants Man’ Brett Craig on Kath & Kim – told Woman’s Day in January that he decided to take part in I’m A Celebrity because of a ‘whack’ tax bill, implying it wasn’t something he’d usually do.

‘You know, we live in a beautiful country and I got behind on my payments. I got sick of staring at the ceiling going, “How am I going to pay it?”‘ he said.

The father-of-four reportedly admitted it was the ‘only way’ he could get his family ‘back on their feet’.

Peter added: ‘I said to my wife (Gabrielle), “If you can think of a better way, let me know, but I can’t”.’
