Simone Holtznagel honours the late Charlotte Dawson

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Simone Holtznagel has paid tribute to her late friend Charlotte Dawson, who took her life four years ago following a battle with depression.

On Thursday, an emotional essay dedicated to Charlotte was posted to Simone’s Instagram page as well as a faded photo of herself with Charlotte and fellow model Madeline ‘Maddy’ Huett-Auld.

As Simone is currently still in South Africa competing on I’m A Celebrity, a friend of the Playboy model appears to have uploaded the impassioned post for her, writing: ‘Today marks 4 years since Charlotte left us.’

‘Simone and Maddy would like to thank everyone for their support of Sim in the jungle so far and use this day as a bittersweet reminder of the importance of charities like @beyondblueofficial – #beyondblueworks to equip the 3 million+ Australians living with anxiety and depression with the knowledge & skills to protect their own mental health and break down the barriers that prevent people speaking up and seeking support,’ the post continued.

‘Simone’s IAC [I’m A Celebrity] charity is Beyond Blue in tribute to her dear friend Charlotte.’

Earlier this month, Simone broke down while speaking to her fellow I’m A Celebrity contestants about Charlotte, telling them that she had to ID Charlotte’s body following her passing.

‘She was a model, she was really famous in Australia and New Zealand and then she met this guy called Scott Miller who was at the time, an Olympic swimmer,’ she explained.

‘Then she fell pregnant and he was training for the Olympics and she was like pressured from his camp and him to have an abortion.

She continued: ‘That’s when she first started to get depression. She was a massive target, especially when she turned 40 and she was single, didn’t have kids – people were so mean to her.’

The normally bubbly blonde broke down in tears as she recalled having to ID Charlotte’s body.

‘Me and my best friend had to ID her body and I was like ‘I love you so much,” she sobbed.

Simone previously said she no longer felt ‘angry’ about Charlotte’s death and often surrounded herself with her mentor’s shoes and belonging that she gave to her before passing away.

‘I miss her… I am not angry any more, I just wish she was here,’ she recently told The Daily Telegraph.
