In all of, what, six or seven months? A year? Whatever the span, that’s all it’s taken for Timothée Chalamet to go from on-the-make actor to household name, Oscar contender, and GQ cover star. In that same span of time, the 22-year-old New Yorker has become a style icon, too. With zero experience dressing like a famous person, Chalamet killed one press appearance after another this fall and winter, wearing bold outerwear and slick tailoring by Saint Laurent, Berluti, Gucci, and other powerhouse luxury brands.
All that said, to compare Timothée Chalamet’s denim-heavy, off-duty wardrobe with his red-carpet velvet jackets and bright-color suits isn’t quite fair, but we think the former is worth shouting out anyway. Because unlike shrunken suits and metal-toe cowboy boots, Chalamet’s off-the-clock fare is something every guy can embrace—as soon as this weekend, even.
Earlier this week, for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about that peach scene, Chalamet kept it simple with a crewneck sweater—the kind of sweater every guy has in his closet, whether in cashmere or merino wool, bold green or serious navy—and slim-cut black jeans tucked into combat boots. Chalamet finished the look with a bag that nodded to both his youth as well as his financial status: a black leather backpack. And that was it. Simple. To the point. Something you can go home and put on tonight. As much as we appreciate a cobalt blue Raf suit, there’s something nice about a style flex that makes the stuff in your closet look late-night TV worthy.
