TV BAFTAs: Dec prepares for first ceremony without Ant

As the TV BAFTAs loom, inside images of the ceremony’s seating plan sadly show Declan Donnelly’s spot without his trusty sidekick Ant McPartlin nearby.

Ahead of Sunday night’s show, behind-the-scenes snaps show the star will be sandwiched between Ashley Banjo and Thandie Newton at London’s Royal Festival Hall, as Ant continues his treatment for substance abuse issues.

The hosts are regular guests at the bash and won the Best Entertainment Performance prize in both 2014 and 2015, yet Dec will be flying the flag solo at the bash, where Saturday Night Takeaway is up for the Entertainment Programme gong.

Ant was recently fined a record £86,000 and banned from the road for one year and eight months after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

Last week, he was seen outside rehab following a month of intensive treatment after he admitted himself to a private clinic to battle his drink and painkiller addiction.

The television presenter, 42, looked fresh-faced as he took his beloved Labrador, Hurley for a walk in a London park earlier this week.

Ant appeared in high spirits as he strolled through the park, with both his appearance and demeanour looking remarkably different from when he attended his sentencing at Wimbledon Magistrates Court earlier this month.

It’s believed the TV star, cleanly shaven and smiling, was sharing a dog walk with Hurley and his personal assistant Anne Marie Corbett.

And while it is not known if Ant has left rehab for good or was taking time out to enjoy a walk with his pooch, one onlooker told the publication, the I’m A Celeb host looked ‘much more upbeat’.

They said: ‘It was great to see him looking so well, and much more upbeat.

‘In pictures taken after his accident Ant looked haunted. He hadn’t shaved and looked like he hadn’t slept much but the Ant we saw this week could have been a different person.’

The BAFTA TV Awards, or the British Academy Television Awards, are annual awards that have celebrated the best in British TV since 1955 and are equivalent to the Emmy Awards.

Until 1997, the BAFTA Film and Television awards were presented as one ceremony but were then split into two the next year, with The Craft Awards being celebrated at a later date.

The TV BAFTAs are usually broadcast on a day after they have taken place and between 1998 and 2006, it alternated between ITV and BBC One. However, the awards have been broadcast on BBC One since 2007.
