Bernard Tomic left I’m A Celeb jungle to benefit career

Tuesday night saw Bernard Tomic sensationally become the first Australian contestant to ever voluntarily quit I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here.

And although he struggled in his first sky-high Tucker Trial, the 25-year-old tennis player said it had nothing to do with it.

Speaking to News Corp, Bernard said his decision to walk came down to him wanting to return to his sporting career.

‘I obviously disappointed the fans that were expecting to see me this whole time and I am sorry that I let them down,’ he said.

‘But this was for my best interests and something that is going to benefit my career.’

And although his departure after a mere three days is the first time ever an Australian contestant has left the show, the troubled star said he didn’t see himself as a quitter.

Bernard’s departure comes after he was seen telling his co-star Jackie Gillies he was depressed.

‘I thought I’d be super happy and I thought camping and coming here for the first time and being around people I could, you know, half the time during the day I’m just depressed,’ he said.

‘I’m thinking I’ve never had time to think about my thoughts. I always had people around. My mobile phone and my life is fast paced and everything has slowed down the last three or four days.’

‘I don’t want to spend half my time depressed here and thinking about how I played last year and where I should be,’ he continued.

‘I found what I need to do and I really need to get back to what I do best.’

Bernard’s departure makes him the first star to leave the fourth series with boxing legend Danny Green set to take his place in the jungle on Wednesday night.
